Most of yesterday seemed to be spent in various waiting rooms with no information on why there were such lengthy delays or exactly when one would eventually be seen. When finally I was seen (by various nurses and specialists in different rooms working different machines) I found out very little more- I will hopefully reach a state of enlightenment in due course, possibly learning the outcome by mail. Here’s hoping.
I attended the Word! Wordshop at the Y Theatre http://wordpoetry.co.uk/default.aspx yesterday evening prior to the open mike and featured artist who this week was Aoife Mannix. The workshop was great (even though I arrived late due to delays touched on above…) We were asked to imagine taking a fantastical trip to Venus for a fancy dress ball, describing our outfit, shoes, accessories, mode of transport, travelling partner, arrival, winning of the best dressed prize and acceptance speech… all in stages. I wrote something I’d like to come back to and perhaps work up either into a short story or a poem. Very inspiring and a lot of fun.
The evening was entertaining as always with a huge variety of people and poems out to be heard. I read- and shook like a leaf as usual, adrenalin rushing, heart pumping… I can only get better!
Aoife’s performance http://aoifemannix.com/ was really enjoyable. Her warm, funny, touching, sometimes fantastical and at others, hard hitting poetry was a joy. Already been surfing in an attempt to scoop up her entire back catalogue but only managed to find one out of four. Will continue my search for the others, The Trick of foreign words, Turn the clocks upside down and The elephant in the Corner.
Just off to Novel Writing with Rod Duncan… my new class at Leicester Writing school. Looking forward to it.
